衣服と深い関係にあるのが fashion です。現在では日本語でもファッションと言っている英語の fashion（OF façon）の原義は「作り、型」でした。以下の例でお分かりのように、中英語から初期近代英語にかけて、fashion は 'shape, appearance' 「姿、形、外見、様子」の意味で用いられていました。
